Leaning on What?

Updated: Jul 13, 2022

🎶🌿“Who is this coming up from the wilderness, Leaning upon her beloved?”

- Song of Solomon 8:5

“Mom, was all this crazy stuff happening when you were 30?” I inquired over the phone.

Outside the morning was sunny, I was pushing my freshly one-year-old baby in the swing, turning up the volume on my phone so I could hear her reply over the freakishly loud (and apparently deaf) cicada choir. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀

The unseen reality, however, was that my mind was whirring with all of the recent contradictory events and accompanying emotions.

Sudden death, trouble, war, pain. And at the same time: new life, forgiveness, testimonies, the Holy Spirit’s prophetic involvement and evidence of a very real Jesus in the day-to-day grind.

It all does not feel normal…

True, sudden death, miraculous life, Jesus… war, famine, pestilence… testimonies of healing, deliverance, divine intervention, none of it is exactly new.

But the dizzying pace that they are all happening at today seems to kick out the prop we are leaning upon and many of us are hitting our face on the floor!

Props that once used to withstand the weight can no longer hold up under the pressure that many of us are feeling today.

👉🏼What are you leaning on?

The biblically deficient, vague faith of Americanized prosperity is not sufficient for the hour.

What are you leaning on? Who are you leaning on?

A parent? Your spouse? Addiction? Distraction?

Any other person or thing outside of your living, breathing Savior, Jesus Christ, will undoubtedly buckle under the pressure felt in the days ahead if it hasn’t already.

What are you leaning on?

❤️ “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses”

Proverbs 27:6

Lean upon Jesus. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. He is gentle and humble in heart. He can be trusted.

If you feel pain and pressure from the hand of Jesus, perhaps He is not trying to hurt you, but simply lance a nasty boil (don't ask me how I know about these)! 🙅🏼‍♀️

If left untouched, that source of pain you are guarding so closely, would poison your blood and harm your soul.

The Lord is so kind,
